Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has expressed concern over the situation created by the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. He said on Tuesday (03 March) that the state government is giving priority to the safety of the people of Himachal living in the Middle East. More than 45,000 people from Himachal are living in the Middle East.

While talking to the media in Rampur, Shimla, Vikramaditya Singh said, “The tense situation between Iran, Israel and America is a matter of concern.” In these circumstances, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of Himachali migrants living in the Middle East. According to available information, about 45,000 Himachal Pradesh residents live in Middle Eastern countries like Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iran and United Arab Emirates for employment or education.

The minister further said, “The Himachal Pradesh government is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and any distress appeal from the people of the state will be immediately taken up with the central government. The safety of our Himachali brothers and sisters living in the Middle East is our top priority. As soon as we get information about anyone being in a difficult situation there, we will immediately contact the central government. Necessary arrangements will be made for Himachalis wishing to return to India.

‘Closely monitoring the safety of Himachali migrants’

Naresh Chauhan, media advisor to Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, also expressed concern about the situation in the Middle East in a statement issued here. He said that the Himachal government is in constant touch with the Central government and is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of Himachali migrants living in the Middle East. “A dedicated helpline number and social media communication channels are being created to establish contact between NRIs and their families,” he said.
