Heartbreaking news has come out from the Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (Myh) of Indore. Within the last 48 hours in the hospital’s intensive medical unit (ICU), two newborns were touched by mice. The incident not only exposed the negligence of the hospital administration, but has also filled the hearts of parents across the state.
According to the hospital administration, rats targeted newborns admitted to the ICU associated with the surgery department. Rats were bitten by mice on the fingers of one child, while the other child’s head and shoulder buried teeth. Both children were struggling with congenital distortions. One of these children was found in unclaimed condition in Khargone district, which was sent to MYH for treatment.
Investigation committee constituted, security arrangements intensified
Superintendent of MYH Dr. Ashok Yadav said that the inquiry committee has been formed in view of the seriousness of the case. The committee will find out where negligence is done and whose fault is. He said that employees have been instructed to be vigilant for the entire 24 hours.
Also, strong iron jalis are being installed on the hospital windows so that the rats do not come in. Appeals have also been made to the families of the patients not to bring food and drink from outside to the ward, because this attracts the mice.
Opposition attack, demand for judicial inquiry
The Congress has targeted the state government regarding this incident. Congress spokesperson Neelabh Shukla said that this is not only administrative negligence but a frightening incident shocking human sensibilities.
He said, “If the government is not able to keep newborns safe in the hospital, then from where to expect the general public?” The Congress has demanded judicial inquiry into the incident and strict action against the culprits.
MYH is the largest government hospital in the state, where thousands of patients arrive for treatment daily. In such a situation, the incident of mice mingling newborns has raised serious questions on the cleanliness and security of the hospital. Since the incident, the feeling of fear and insecurity in the hearts of parents across the state has gone home.
