Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday (September 22) that pod taxi services will be started in Mumbai. In a meeting held in relation to pod taxi at Sahyadri guest house, Fadnavis said, “The cities are expanding due to increasing urbanization. Citizens have to travel a long way to reach the workplace. Therefore, along with strengthening the public transport system, it is now needed to provide ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ to citizens. ”
The Chief Minister directed that the next step of the transport service is ‘pod taxi’ and this service should be made available to citizens for ‘Last Mile Connectivity’.
Where is the plan of pod taxi?
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that this service will prove to be important in the ‘Business District’ located between Kurla to Bandra railway station. Due to the future bullet train station, Mumbai High Court, the crowd of citizens is going to increase in this area.
He said, “Citizens are likely to face difficulties by increasing pressure on the currently available transport service. In future, pod taxi can be a better option to provide delay and easily transport service to citizens in this region. ”
Instructions regarding single card
Devendra Fadnavis said, “Arrangements are being made to travel through single card in all transport services in Mumbai. Citizens should also get service of pod taxi with this single card, action should be taken in this direction. Kurla and Bandra station complex should be developed according to pod taxi. Police should be provided other places in the same area instead of police residence located in Kurla station premises. Also, the buildings of the Bandra-Kurla Complex area should be connected to the station with pod taxi. ”
The Chief Minister said that in view of the commercial importance of this region, this service should be globally, it should be taken care of. Good concepts should be applied to better use the sky walk outside the station.
The meeting was attended by Brihanmumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Metropolitan Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Area Development Authority, Sanjay Mukherjee, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) Sanjay Sethi, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Asim Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home) Anup Kumar Singh etc.
What is pod taxi?
The pod taxi is part of the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system, in which fully automated, driver -less (driver laces), electric vehicles run on high tracks. In this, a small number of people can go at once.
