The Mumbai Police has opposed the bail plea of Bangladeshi citizen Mohammad Shariful Islam, accused of a knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Police say that they have strong evidence against the accused, so they have appealed not to release the accused on bail.
Police told the court that the knife used in the attack in forensic investigation and pieces of knife recovered from the accused will be the same. The next hearing will be held on August 1.
Accused of knife attack on Saif Ali Khan filed a bail plea
Mohammad Shariful Islam, an accused, who made a knife attack at his Mumbai residence on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has filed a bail petition, the accused has claimed in his petition that the case filed against him is a ‘fictional story’. On the bail plea of the accused, the Bandra police filed their reply in the Bandra court of Mumbai, the police said that they have strong evidence.
Police repeat evidence in court
The police, citing the report of forensic science laboratory in the court, reiterated their earlier claim before the court that during the attack, a piece of knife near the actor’s spine and a piece of knife found at the site had matched with a weapon recovered from the accused. The police said in a written reply to the petition of the accused in the court that these three pieces were of the same knife which was used to attack the actor.
Why did the police protest against the bail of the accused
The police said in their reply that the accused is a Bangladeshi citizen who is living illegally in India, if he gets bail, then it is likely that he runs away from India and does not appear in court during the trial. The police argued that the crime committed by the accused is’ of very serious nature and strong evidence against him is present.
