In the ODI format, he has taken 177 wickets in 116 matches, while in T20 International, he has taken 158 wickets in 126 matches. His cutter and slower balls in the death overs have been a challenge for batsmen all over the world.

The controversy deepened after Mustafizur was thrown out of the IPL. Bangladesh Cricket Board refused to come to India for T20 World Cup 2026 and demanded to shift its matches to Sri Lanka citing security. However, according to media reports, the ICC has currently refused to accept this demand.
