At present the second phase of Kaliyuga is going on, the impact of which can be clearly felt. But you will be surprised to know that there is a place on earth which is completely free from the influence of Kaliyuga. This is also such a pilgrimage site, without visiting which the journey to Chardham is considered incomplete.
The description of this holy pilgrimage site can be seen in all the religious texts ranging from Vedas and Puranas. Naimisharanya is the same place where the Mahapuranas were composed. During the Mahabharata period, Pandu’s son Arjun and Yudhishthar also came to this place. Apart from this, in ancient times, 88 thousand sages had performed rigorous penance at this place, hence it is also known as Tapobhoomi.
Naimisharanya, located in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, is a great pilgrimage site which is situated on the banks of Gomti River, about 80 kilometers from Lucknow. This place is also known as Naimisharanya, Naimish or Neemshar.
According to beliefs, Lord Brahma himself has described this place as the best for doing meditation and yoga. Talking about the main attractions of Naimisharanya place, Chakratirthi, Vyas Gaddi, Bhuteshwanath Temple, Lalita Devi Temple, Havan Kund, Panchprayag, Shesh Temple, Hanuman Garhi, Shivala-Bhairav Ji, Panch Pandav Temple, Panchpuran Temple, Maa Anandamayi Ashram, Nardanam Saraswati Ashram, Devpuri Temple, Ramanuj Kot and Rudravart are included here.
Devotees coming to Naimisharanya circumambulate it. This revolution is of 84 Kos. Every year this parikrama is done from the date of Pratipada till the full moon day after the new moon day of Phalgun month. There is also a permanent lake named Panchprayag here, on the banks of which there is a 5099 year old Akshaya Banyan tree.
