This festival is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha, a day before Diwali. According to the scriptures, the god of death Yamraj and Hanuman ji are worshiped on the day of Narak Chaturdashi.

Worshiping Lord Krishna on the day of Narak Chaturdashi is also considered auspicious. Because this Lord Shri Krishna had killed the demon named Narakasura. Narakasura used to torture his people a lot. Therefore, when Lord Krishna killed Narakasura, light was victorious over darkness and unrighteousness.
