Vivan Shah’s journey has been quite inspiring. The film ’21’ came to him because of a strange but beautiful coincidence. His name alone was the reason for opening the door, but he got the role because of his hard work and preparation. He openly admits that he comes from nepotism, which he calls “artistic nepotism”. He may get a chance, but it depends on himself to prove. His role of Captain Vijendra Malhotra in 21 was small, but the impact was huge. He says that in today’s time, the real impact of a role matters more than screen time. Despite his boyish looks, it was extra special for him to be selected in such a military role. He never felt burdened by the pressure of being Naseeruddin Shah’s son. Instead he considered it motivation. Sometimes rejection hurts a bit, but he focused on creating his own identity. Vivan never wanted to become an actor. In school and college, people used to joke that “Why are you studying, you will become an actor.” But at the age of 19, Vishal Bhardwaj auditioned him for a challenging role. Seeing people working on the set, he realized that cinema is not just entertainment but a big art form for society. He said to himself “Be grateful. Stay quiet. Do the work.” And since then he completely adopted acting. Even today Vivaan considers himself a student. With every new role he learns something new. His journey was not easy, but coincidences, opportunities and hard work took him here.
