Jammu kashmir news: The National Conference questioned the Election Commission, alleging that the Commission is discriminating against the people of Jammu and Kashmir by depriving them of their rights. The National Conference has said that more than seven months have passed and elections have not been held in two vacant seats.
National Conference MLA and Chief Spokesperson Tanveer Sadiq has questioned the Election Commission’s decision to hold the by-elections in five assembly seats in four states from the Government of India and the Election Commission, while two assembly and four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir have been excluded from the election process.
Two seats of Budgam in Nagrota and Kashmir in Jammu have been vacant due to the death of BJP’s Devendra Rana and resignation of Omar Abdullah. Apart from this, four Rajya Sabha seats are vacant after the cancellation of Article 370 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
Tanveer Sadiq said, “When special status was abolished, we were told that this has been done to bring political uniformity in the country, but why our people are being denied their political rights.”
The Election Commission announced the by-election dates in four states on Sunday and said that elections will be held on June 19, but Jammu and Kashmir has been excluded from the program. Gujarat will have two assembly by-elections, while Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab will have one by-election each and followed by counting on June 23.
Political parties of Jammu and Kashmir hoped that elections will be held for the by-elections for two assembly seats as well as vacant seats of Rajya Sabha. According to the current number in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the National Conference and the Congress are likely to get three seats, while a member of the BJP will be selected for the Rajya Sabha.
But all political parties are confused by the Election Commission keeping Jammu and Kashmir out of the election program. Tanveer Sadiq said, “We are feeling cheated by keeping Jammu and Kashmir out, but now we feel that the right time has come to restore the status of the state.”
The by -election has been announced by the Election Commission. Among them, the by -election for Kadi seat in Gujarat became necessary due to the death of current MLA Karsanbhai Bhai Solanki, while the by -election for Visavadar seat in the state is due to the resignation of the current member Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. The by -election will be held in the Nilambur seat in Kerala as PV Anwar has resigned, while the by -election is to be held due to the death of current member Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in Ludhiana seat in Punjab. Similarly, the by -election in Kaliganj assembly seat in West Bengal has become necessary due to the death of the current assembly member Naseeruddin Ahmed.
