At least 214 people were killed and many others were injured due to heavy rains in the last 36 hours in many parts of Pakistan and PoK. Officials said on Friday (August 15, 2025) that most of the deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where there was a sudden flood in various districts due to torrential rains.
Several buildings were damaged by the floods and major roads including the Karakoram highway and the Baltistan highway in Gilgit-Baltistan of PoK were blocked. Officials have warned that heavy rains are likely to continue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province till August 21.
Buner district has the highest number of 92 deaths
A spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that during the last 24 hours, at least 198 people, including 14 women and 12 children, died and many are missing due to sudden floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to PDMA, Buner district had maximum 92 deaths. Other affected districts include Mansehra, Bajaur, Batagram, Lower Dir and Shangla.
Meanwhile, officials said that two helicopters of the provincial government were working to save the people. He said that a helicopter crashed due to bad weather, killing two crew members and three relief workers in the monkey tribal district. All hospitals in the province were ordered to establish a flood control room to ensure availability of drugs and the functioning of medical equipment in a notification issued.
The relief operation of the Pakistani Army continues in the flood affected areas of Swat and Bajaur and the army team is transferring residents from flood -affected areas to safe places.
What did the CM of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa say?
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Amin Ali Gandapur directed to deploy all available resources for rescue and relief work and directed the Commissioner of Malakand and Deputy Commissioner of Bajaur to monitor the work personally. Life was also affected on a large scale in the Neelam Valley of Northeast, where tourists were taken to safe places.
Many bridges demolished
In the flood, two bridges built on the Lawat drain were washed away, while in the Jagran drain, a bridge in Kundal Shahi was demolished. A restaurant and at least three houses were also swept away in the area. A house in Sarali Sacha village in Muzaffarabad district of PoK was hit by a landslide, causing six members of the same family to be buried and feared to be killed. The 26 -year -old youth was swept away in a drain in Sudhanoti district, while a 57 -year -old woman died after falling into the house in Bagh district.
