In the nine -day festival of Sharadiya Navratri, the fifth day is dedicated to the worship of Skandmata, which is on 27 September 2025. Worshiping this form of Maa Durga brings child happiness.
In the worship of Skandamata, sugar pudi, banana, gram and pudding are offered. Mother Skandamata loves rose and red flowers of Gurgahal. Skandamata’s favorite color is yellow.
Mother Skandmata has four arms. In the right upper arm, Lord Skanda is sitting in the lap. In the right lower arm, the mother has a lotus in her hand. In this form, the mother looks very seductive and cute.

According to the legend, Skandmata originated for the slaughter of Tarakasura. Actually, a demon named Tarakasura had a boon from Brahma ji that his death is possible only at the hands of Shiva’s child.
When Tarakasura’s terror started increasing, mother Parvati took the form of Skandmata and started preparing her son Skanda i.e. Kartikeya for war. Karthikeya killed Tarakasura after receiving war education from Skandmata.
