NDA’s seat sharing formula decided in Assam! Know on how many seats BJP, AGP and BPF will contest elections.

NDA’s seat sharing formula for Assam assembly elections has been decided. According to sources, out of 126 assembly seats in the state, BJP can contest maximum 89 seats. Whereas AGP can contest elections on 26 seats and BPF on 11 seats. Elections for all seats in Assam are scheduled to be held on 9 April 2026. Pradyut Bordoloi can contest assembly elections from Dispur in Assam on BJP ticket.

A total of 37 seats will be given to allies: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced on Tuesday (17 March 2026) that BJP will contest 89 seats in the upcoming assembly elections, while its allies will be given a total of 37 seats. After the BJP Central Election Committee meeting, Assam CM said that talks on seat sharing are in the final stages and the alliance will soon finalize the election strategy.

In the last assembly elections, BJP had contested 92 seats, while AGP was given 26 seats and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) was given 8 seats. The NDA’s 2021 victory was special because it was the first time that a non-Congress alliance retained power in Assam for the second consecutive term. Seat sharing always plays an important role in Assam politics, especially in areas like Bodoland, where regional parties have significant influence.

BJP-AGP’s performance was better in the last elections

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘We are preparing to contest the elections in a coordinated manner, so that we can perform better.’ There are a total of 126 seats in the Assam Assembly and election activities have intensified in the state. All the political parties are busy finalizing the alliance and candidates. In the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power by winning 75 out of 126 seats. BJP alone won 60 seats, while AGP got 9 seats.
