In the case of the death of a student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Patna, the capital of Bihar, investigators on Tuesday (January 20, 2026) sealed the private hostel (Shambhu Girls Hostel) where she lived. The officers provided this information. The 18-year-old student, resident of Jehanabad, was found unconscious in her room in the hostel located in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar earlier this month.
The student died on January 11
He died in a private hospital on January 11 after being in a coma for several days. The family accused the student of sexual harassment and the police of trying to suppress the case, after which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the matter.
According to officials, SIT members visited the hostel and sealed the premises after inspecting various parts for about half an hour. Earlier, the SIT had also gone to Jehanabad and met the family of the student.
Following this incident, massive protests took place in the state capital, following which the police arrested the hostel owner. The post mortem report revealed that the student died after consuming a large number of sleeping pills.
Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore met the student’s family on Friday and demanded a re-investigation of the case. Within hours of that meeting, Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar had directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.
Case of death of another student came up
Amidst the outrage over this matter, a case of suicide of another girl living in another hostel in the city has also come to light. She was also preparing for NEET. A 15-year-old student from Aurangabad was found dead in a hostel located on Exhibition Road, Patna on January 6.
Gandhi Maidan police station incharge Akhilesh Kumar Mishra said that on the basis of the complaint of the student’s family, a boy has been detained. The family members alleged that the boy had entered the hostel and assaulted the student.
