The Halia protests in Nepal shook the country’s government. As a result, all the big leaders held in the government resigned. This protest was started by the youth, due to which the reason was related to corruption and banning social media. Apart from this, another report related to Nepal has come out, which is related to the youth. In which information has been given about consumption of alcohol. However, the report is old, but worrying. A report was prepared in Nepal through the Steps Survey 2019, which included people aged 15-69. The report prepared the data on the use of drugs related to drugs.
Alcohol has social and religious significance in the culture of Nepal, but at the same time it also causes health risk and social problems. The report found that 72.2% of adults stayed away from alcohol for a lifetime, while 23.9% adults were drinkers. These figures clarified that alcohol consumption is much higher than women in men. The trend of consumption of alcohol in Nepal clearly reflects gender -based differences. 38.6% in men and only 10.8% current in women were found to be drunk. About 11.7% of men drink alcohol daily, while in women this ratio is very low. Of those who have repeatedly drinking alcohol, 12.4% are men and only 1.7% are women.
Increasing circulation of alcohol without record
In Nepal, a large part of alcohol consumption is unrecorded alcohol, which is neither officially sold nor recorded in government data. 68.5% of the drinkers consumed Alcohol without Unrecorded. Of the total consumption, 66.3% of the liquor was recorded. Most of these included home -made Spirit (Raxi/Ella) (57.4%) and home -made wine (magic) (36.7%).
Challenges related to liquor policy
Alcohol is easily found in Nepal and this is a big challenge. Only 11.8% of the people admitted that it is difficult to get alcohol. About 27.9% of the participating in the survey admitted that alcohol has become cheaper than before. The most shocking thing is that no respondent in the age group of 15-18 years was prevented from buying alcohol due to their age, while the legal minimum age is 18 years. It is clear from this that laws related to alcohol control are not being followed properly and they need to be strictly implemented.
