Cricket cooperation has added a new dimension to the deep and centuries -old historical relations between India and Nepal, which connects the youth of both countries through a common passion for cricket. Under this cooperation, the Government of India is helping Nepal to improve cricket talent and provide training opportunities to Nepali cricketers in India.
In the last two years, the Government of India and BCCI have worked closely with the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) in this effort. Highlighting India’s commitment, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar met representatives of Nepal’s men’s national cricket team and CAN in January 2024 and apprised India’s support for the development of cricket in Nepal.
In collaboration with the Government of India, the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bangalore, the ICC Men will host the training camp of Nepal’s men’s national cricket team from August 20 to September 4, 2025 for the preparation of the ICC Men T20 World Cup qualifier in Oman in October 2025. The Government of India had earlier supported the training of Nepal’s National men’s cricket team at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bangalore in August 2024.
Nepal participated in a triangular T20 practice tournament against teams of Baroda and Gujarat Cricket Association in April 2024 before the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup to be held in June 2024. The Government of India supported the practice tournament in Nepal’s Under-19 teams and Delhi and District Cricket Association team in March 2025 to assist Nepal in preparation for the ICC Under-19 World Cup qualifier.
Nepal’s women’s national cricket team attended a preparation camp held in April-May 2025 in Delhi to prepare for the ICC Women’s Asia World Cup qualifier to be held in Thailand in May 2025. Nepal reached the final of the qualifier. In July 2025, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu supported three promising under-19 cricketers of Nepal for a month-long professional training program in Bhopal.
Even in the past, the Government of India has taken initiative to support cricket in Nepal. In 2013, a bus was gifted to Nepal Cricket Board (Can). In October 2023, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, B.P. The Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and a public sector undertaking of the Government of India, presented professional sports equipment to Nepal’s men’s national cricket team through SJVN Limited.
