At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike near a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon. The country’s Health Ministry has confirmed this. Israel claimed that its targets were Hamas members, while Hamas has described these allegations as ‘lies and fabricated stories’.

Israel claims- ‘Hamas training camp targeted’
The Israeli Army (IDF) said that it targeted a ‘training compound’ of Hamas located in the Ein el-Hilweh area. According to him, this place was being used to plan and execute attacks on Israel. Hamas responded by saying that this claim is completely ‘fabricated’ and that they do not have any military bases in the Palestinian camps.

Treatment of injured continues, chaos in the camp
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that apart from those who died, at least 4 people were injured. In the video that surfaced on social media, it was seen that ambulances were passing rapidly through the narrow streets of Ain al-Hilwe camp and a huge plume of smoke was rising from the area. According to reports, the attack took place outside a mosque, which is usually crowded with people at night.

What allegation did Hamas make?
Hamas condemned the attack, saying that the site targeted by Israel was actually an “open playground” and not a military base. The IDF says it used ‘precision weapons, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence’ to protect civilians from harm before the attack.

Israel-Hamas-Hezbollah conflict intensifies from 2023
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked southern Israel from Gaza, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage. According to Gaza’s Hamas-administered Health Ministry, 69,169 Palestinians have died in Gaza so far in Israeli retaliation. The day after the Hamas attack, Lebanon-based Iran-backed organization Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel. After this, the conflict between the two continued for 13 months, which intensified with Israel’s heavy bombardment and ground action in October 2024.

Lebanese officials say that about 4,000 people died in the conflict in the country, including a large number of civilians. Apart from this, more than 12 lakh people were forced to leave their homes. Israel claims that 80 soldiers and 47 civilians from its side were killed in these attacks.
