It is said that dreams have no age, if there is passion then the path will be created automatically. Juvana Abdullah, resident of Kasaragod district of Kerala, has once again proved this to be true. At the age of 47, after marriage and raising four children, Juwana has cleared the NEET exam and started studying Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

When Juvana got married in 2000, she had left her master’s degree in Medical Pharmacology midway. Due to home and family responsibilities, he had to keep his dreams aside for some time. But now, after 25 years, he has again taken steps towards his unfinished destination.

What does Juvana say?

Juvana says that now I want to move forward by maintaining a balance between studies and life. His family is also full of doctors. Her husband Dr. K.P. Abdullah is an ENT surgeon in the government hospital of Kanhangad. His elder daughter Maryam Afrin has done MBBS and is now a house surgeon. Two sons, Salih Abdurrazaq and Salman Abdul Qadir, are medical students, while the youngest daughter, Azima Asiya, is currently studying in class 12th. In such an environment, Juvana going to college again has become a matter of inspiration for the family.

Juvana passed this exam without any coaching class. He only took the help of YouTube and his children for preparation. She says that during the pandemic, I saw my son taking online coaching. Then I felt that if he can do it, why can’t I. When the National Medical Commission removed the age limit for NEET, I decided to try my hand. My husband and children supported me at every step.

Juvana, who dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood, says that after 12th, I had given the medical entrance examination of Kerala Government thrice but did not get success. Later I did B.Sc in Zoology and then joined postgraduation in Medical Pharmacology in Mangaluru. But then my father passed away which left me very broken. After a few months, I got married and left my studies.

She says that for me this journey was more about working intelligently than hard work. I read a little bit every day, took help from the children and had faith in myself. Age is not a hindrance, you just need courage. Now he has taken admission in a dental college located about half an hour away from his home.
