The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reviewing its media accreditation process for Bangladeshi journalists looking to cover the T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh had decided not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup due to security reasons, after which the ICC has started making changes in its application process. Some Bangladeshi journalists say that their application has been rejected by the ICC.
According to news agency PTI, ICC sources said that the process is being changed considering the number of requests and the schedule. It is being told that about 80-90 Bangladeshi journalists had applied for media recognition. But the source said that even if Bangladesh was participating in the T20 World Cup, it would not have been possible to approve so many applications.
The ICC makes decisions on media applications based on the recommendations of the ICC Domestic Board. As per the rules, the number of journalists should not exceed 40.
On this matter, the media manager of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that this matter has been raised before the ICC. BCB media manager Amjad Hussain while talking to reporters said that the decision came yesterday and we have sought details on this matter. Amjad Hussain said that this matter is confidential and he wanted to know why this happened.
Now Bangladeshi journalists will have to make new applications, which will be evaluated one by one. According to the ICC’s assessment, there was no danger to the Bangladeshi cricket team if it went to India, yet the Bangladesh Cricket Board refused to send its team.
