West Indies all-rounder Shamar Springer made an important contribution to his team’s victory by taking a hat-trick in the third T20 against Afghanistan, for which he also received the Player of the Match award. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was playing after scoring 73 runs. Afghanistan needed 23 runs in 12 balls to win and 6 wickets were left. Springer, who came to bowl the 19th over, took his first T20 hat-trick by taking 3 wickets in the first 3 balls.
Shamar Springer dismissed the set batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the first ball of the 19th over. Gurbaz scored 73 runs in 58 balls, in this innings he hit 1 six and 8 fours. The next batsman was Rashid Khan, who could bat well on such occasions. But Springer sent him to the pavilion on his very first ball. He took his first T20 International hat-trick by bowling Shahidullah on the third ball.
Afghanistan won the series 2-1
Batting first in the third T20, West Indies could score only 151 runs. No batsman of the team could score a half-century. Brandon King scored the highest 47 runs. Chasing the target, Afghanistan came close to victory, but Springer’s hat-trick turned the match in favor of West Indies. Afghanistan remained 14 runs short of the target and West Indies won the match. However, Afghanistan had already won the series by winning the first two matches.
New world record made in T20
This was Shamar Springer’s first hat-trick in T20 International, this was his sixth match. He has become the third West Indies bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 International. Earlier, in the second match of the series, Mujeeb Ur Rahman of Afghanistan had taken a hat-trick. Afghanistan won that match by 39 runs.
This is the first time that two bowlers have taken hat-tricks in a T20 series, this has never happened before. Afghanistan batsman Darwish Rasooli received the Player of the Series award. He played match-winning innings of 84 runs in the first match and 68 runs in the second match.
