The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against 5 accused in an online radicalization case in Gujarat. These people were caught in the case of spreading the ideology of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) on social media.
The names of the people against whom the charge sheet has been filed are Mohammad Fardeen, Qureshi Saifullah, Mohammad Faiq, Zeeshan Ali and Shama Parveen. Action has been taken against all these accused under UAPA, BNS Act and Arms Act.
What was revealed in the NIA investigation?
NIA investigation revealed that these people were spreading the ideology of AQIS through videos, photos and posts on social media. In all these posts, there were anti-India talks, things inciting violence and talk about Sharia law and Caliphate.
The investigation also revealed that these people were trying to instigate the youth against the democratically elected Government of India. Their aim was to attract the youth towards radicalism through online platforms.
Gujarat ATS had recovered weapons, equipment and documents
This case was earlier with Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS). ATS had recovered digital devices, important documents and many weapons from the accused. It also included a semi-automatic pistol, cartridges and a sword. However, later this case was handed over to NIA.
NIA traced digital footprints
NIA traced digital footprints and searched social media accounts, from which many other evidences were also found. At the same time, with the help of posts, chats and groups, NIA tracked their entire activity. The role of Mohammad Faiq of Old Delhi came to the fore in the investigation. He is accused of sharing content like Jihad, violence and Ghazwa-e-Hind. He used to spread the ideology of AQIS and other banned organizations through Instagram and a special group.
At the same time, Mohammad Fardeen, Qureshi Saifullah and Zeeshan Ali also used to like, share and promote similar radical content on social media. These people together used to spread such content, which talked about Khilafat, Sharia and violent rebellion against the government.
Shama Parveen was in contact with Pakistani citizen
Shama Parveen of Bengaluru is accused of sharing videos of AQIS and being active in fundamentalist groups. NIA also found videos, books related to radicalism and contact numbers related to Pakistan in his phone. Investigation revealed that she was also in contact with a Pakistani citizen Sumer Ali. NIA says investigation into the case is ongoing.
