The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will now investigate the case of death of 26 people in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Since the Pahalgam attack, the NIA team has been present at the place of the incident since the Pahalgam terror attack, which includes the forensic team and the investigating team.
After the instructions were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the NIA has officially registered a case in this matter. Now the NIA will investigate the matter and will cooperate with the NIA including Jammu and Kashmir Police.
NIA is engaged in gathering evidence
According to PTI, the NIA team is engaged in gathering evidence by meeting the victims of Pahalgam terror attack. Special NIA special teams have started contacting eyewitnesses including survivors in the terrorist attack.
At the same time, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and Paramilitary Forces, equipped with the latest equipment like unmanned aircraft (UAVs) and drones, are continuing their campaign on a large scale in search of terrorists in the dense forests of Pir Panjal Range. NIA teams have started talking to the surviving people in search of clues, who can help catch those terrorists.
NIA contacting eyewitnesses
Officials said that the teams started contacting eyewitnesses on Tuesday. He said that due to the intensive campaign of police, army and CRPF, there have been some encounters in South and North Kashmir in the last few days and Lashkar’s top commander Altaf Lali was killed in Bandipura district on Friday.
26 people lost their lives in the terrorist attack on 22 April 2025 in Pahalgam. Initial investigation into the case shows that the number of terrorists involved in it can be five to seven. Officials said that he was helped by at least two local terrorists trained in Pakistan.
According to officials, based on the evidence available, the role of Adil Thakar alias Adil Guri, resident of main suspected Bijbehra and Asif Sheikh, resident of Tral, has come out. Officials believe that Thokar moved to Pakistan in 2018, where he took armed training with the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba and then returned to India to attack.
