A court in the European country France has sentenced former President Nicolas Sarkozy to 5 years in prison. This decision of the court has created a stir in French politics, because Nicolas Sarkozy is the first person holding the post of President of France, who has been sentenced to jail. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be kept in a special section of La Sainte prison in the capital Paris, which is simply called the VIP section of the prison, where he will serve a five-year sentence for his crime.
On which charge was the former President punished?
In fact, former French President Sarkozy has been found guilty in a case of 2007, in which he was accused of criminal conspiracy to fund his election campaign with money received from Libya. However, former President Sarkozy has declared himself innocent, calling all the allegations against him false.
The judge of the Paris Court, while giving an unprecedented verdict in this case, had said that Sarkozy will start serving his sentence in jail without waiting for the hearing of his appeal. After the court order, Nicholas strongly opposed the decision to serve his sentence in jail pending his appeal. He told La Tribune Dimanche newspaper that he is not afraid of going to jail. I will hold my head high, even in front of La Sante’s door. I will keep fighting my battle till the end.
Former President Sarkozy will remain in the special cell of the jail
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be kept in the special VIP section of La Sante prison. In fact, keeping in mind the security reasons in the jail, orders have been given to keep him separate from all other prisoners. In such a situation, Nicolas Sarkoz could be kept in that section of the prison, where some of the most high-profile prisoners since the 19th century have been kept.
