According to the report of the study published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings, it has been told that the people working at night are more likely to suffer from kidney stones than the normal level. Its risk is higher in those people who do less physical effort or are still very young. According to research, body weight, habit of drinking water and other lifestyle habits play an important role in the formation of stones. People working in night shifts are not able to manage their lifestyle properly, due to which the circadian rhythm of their body gets affected. This is a natural process, which decides many functions of the body, such as when to sleep, when to wake up and which hormone will be produced inside the body. Therefore once it is affected, the balance of the entire body gets disturbed.

Yin Yang, chief researcher of the Department of Epidemiology at Sun Yat-sen University of China, says that “People who work in night shifts have about 15 percent higher risk of developing kidney stones. In this, various lifestyle related things like smoking, lack of sleep, drinking less water and gaining excess weight also include in increasing this risk.” During this entire research, Yin Yang and his team collected data of around 2,20,000 people and followed them for 14 years. In which information about people working in different work shifts was collected. In this editorial published by Felix Knoff of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension of the Mayo Clinic of America, it was emphasized that the circadian rhythm of people working in night shifts is most affected.
