How To Calm Mind Before Sleep: One of the most important things in life for a human being is sleep. How important this is, you can understand from the poetry of Mirza Ghalib that “No hope comes, no face is visible, one day of death is inevitable, why sleep does not come throughout the night”. If we understand it in simple words, then the one who gets a deep and peaceful sleep at night is truly lucky. For other people, the mind does not get peace before sleeping, while sleeping and even after breaking sleep.

Pending emails from office, complications in relationships and thoughts suppressed throughout the day become more intense at night. Trying to induce sleep by tossing and turning is a daily story of many people. If this happens to you too, know that you are not alone. According to Anxiety UK, about 80 percent of people feel anxious at night. In such a situation the question arises, what should be done? Let us tell you what to do.

First decide the time to sleep

First of all, set a war time before sleeping. It may seem strange, but before sleeping at night, set aside 20 to 30 minutes just to write down the worries in your mind. Whatever is roaming in your mind, put it down on paper. After this, do light work like reading a book, making the bed or doing light stretching. This signals the brain that the day is over and it is time to rest. Experts believe that a small routine helps in calming the mind. Second, stay away from the phone. You may have heard this advice many times, but the reason behind it is equally strong. Needless scrolling further increases stress and anxiety. Many people start picking up their phones as soon as they wake up at night, due to which the brain becomes more active. It is better to keep the phone away from the bed, use an alarm clock and write down important tasks on paper.

What to do if you can’t sleep?

If you can’t sleep, then instead of lying on the bed and getting restless, do some quiet work. Like folding clothes, light reading, drawing or counting your breaths. This breaks the pace of thoughts. Just be careful not to do anything that the brain finds exciting, and avoid screens altogether. If your mind is racing too much, try five-senses meditation. Pay attention to the texture of your bed, the temperature of the room, the sounds around you, the scent and the taste of the water. By calming the body, the mind also gradually starts to calm down. This brings you back to the present and distances you from the worries of the past or future. It is also important to get outside light and fresh air during the day. Taking small care throughout the day like taking breaks, eating right, doing light exercise and talking to friends can reduce anxiety at night. Experts say that daylight keeps the body clock balanced, making it easier to rest at night.
