An incident that took place while giving appointment letters to newly appointed AYUSH doctors in Bihar has given rise to debate from state politics to the international level. A video related to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar went viral on social media, after which the discussion of this program was not limited to only administrative achievements. After the video surfaced, questions are being raised on issues like religious freedom, women’s respect and personal consent.

This program was organized at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat Samvad, where appointment letters were being handed over to more than one thousand AYUSH doctors. During this time, an incident that happened on the stage changed the direction of the entire event.

Case related to female AYUSH doctor

According to the viral video on social media, a female AYUSH doctor, whose name is said to be Nusrat Parveen, who reached the stage to collect the appointment letter, was standing in front of the Chief Minister. In the video, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is allegedly seen extending his hand pointing towards her face and during this time the woman’s hijab is seen being removed. The female doctor appears uncomfortable at this moment. Although it was a formal government event, after the video surfaced, people started seeing it as a matter of personal honor and religious faith instead of just considering it a momentary incident.

Strong reaction on social media

As soon as the video went viral, there was a flood of reactions on social media. Many people described the Chief Minister’s behavior as inappropriate and demanded a public apology from him. Some users said that any person’s religious identity and personal boundaries should be respected, especially on a public platform. A widespread discussion started in the media regarding this incident. Pakistan’s leading newspaper Dawn also published a report on this, in which it was said that such a step was taken even before the consent of the woman. It was also mentioned in the report that demands for the resignation of the Chief Minister have started rising on social media.

Threats and statements from Pakistan

The controversy escalated further when Pakistan’s notorious don Shahzad Bhatti released a video and threatened Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He warned of serious consequences if he did not apologise. This statement is being considered as an attempt at provocation and propaganda in India.

Human rights organizations demand investigation

Some human rights organizations of Pakistan have also reacted to this entire matter. Pakistan Human Rights Council and Human Rights Commission have condemned the incident and demanded a fair and transparent investigation from the Indian government. He says that this matter is related to women’s dignity, religious freedom and basic human rights. These organizations also said that an official apology should be made to the concerned female doctor and clear guidelines and legal measures should be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.
