After India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2026, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is being praised a lot. During his tenure, India has performed well in limited overs cricket and the team has once again won a major ICC title. However, meanwhile, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has also given an important advice regarding Gambhir. Ganguly believes that Gambhir’s passion to win is very strong, but he needs to soften his attitude a bit.
Ganguly said that Gautam Gambhir is a very competitive person and he wants to win at any cost. This is what makes them different from others. However, according to him, Gambhir does not need to be overly strict and harsh to be effective. Ganguly also said that Gambhir is a good person.
Praise for team first thinking
Sourav Ganguly also praised Gambhir for one thing. He said that Gambhir has strengthened the ‘team first’ thinking in the team. That means the focus has not been on any one star player, but on the collective performance of the entire team. This is a big identity of any successful team. Ganguly believes that Gambhir is doing a good job in this matter and that is why India has got success in white ball cricket.
Also gave advice regarding test cricket
Ganguly further said that Gambhir will have to pay special attention to India’s performance in Test cricket also. According to him, India has good fast bowlers and a strong bowling attack, hence one should stop thinking of making more turning tracks than necessary in home test matches.
Ganguly believes that Indian bowlers can win matches even on good and balanced pitches. He pointed out that the habit of preparing domestic situations only according to spin can cause harm in the long run. If India has to remain strong in Test cricket, then it will have to keep the pitch out of its mind.
Told 2027 World Cup as the real test
The former captain also said that Gambhir has done a good job in white-ball cricket so far, but his real test will be the 2027 ODI World Cup. The conditions in South Africa will not be easy for India, hence both the coach and the team will face a different kind of challenge there.
