A three -and -a -half -year -old girl is reported to have died from Kornavirus in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It is being told that the girl had a complaint of dehydration, after which she was admitted to Delhi’s uncle Nehru Hospital. During the investigation, the girl was found to be Kovid-19 positive. In such a situation, the question is arising whether the new variant of Kovid-19 is dangerous for children? Let’s know about this in detail …

How many cases of Corona are there in Noida?

In Gautam Budh Nagar i.e. Noida, the cases of Kovid-19 are increasing rapidly. On 5 June 2025, 20 new cases were registered in the district, after which the total active case here increased to 158. Let us know that in other parts of the country, cases of Corona are increasing very fast. The reason for this is said to be the sub-variants of Omikron such as JN.1, LF.7, and NB.1.8.1. The death of this Noida girl has been recorded as the first death related to Kovid-19.

What is NB.1.8.1 variants?

According to the WHO, NB.1.8.1 is the new sub-variant of Kovid-19, who is a descendant of JN.1 variant and is also related to Omikron variants. This variant was discovered by the Covid-19 genome sequencing consortium of India in Tamil Nadu for the first time during January 2025. WHO has categorized it as a variant under monitoring (vum). NB.1.8.1 has extra spike mutations T22N, F59S, G184S, A435S, V445H, and T478i, which makes it more contagious than Omikron sub-variants. Experts say that NB.1.8.1 sub-variants are less likely to cause serious illness, but the death of the girl in Noida has challenged the notion that Kovid-19 is completely safe for children.

Kovid-19 influence on children

At the beginning of the Kovid-19 epidemic during 2020, it was believed that children are less affected by viruses. This is the reason that most of the cases of mild or without symptoms are seen in them. However, after the arrival of variants like Delta and Omikron, the children were also infected with Corona. Especially such children were found to be covid positive, who could not be installed vaccine. By 2022, it was observed in global data that cases of Sars-Cov-2 are increasing in children. Such cases were seen more in those areas where the rate of vaccination was found low.

Noida’s death, she was three and a half years old and was hospitalized due to dehydration. She was found to be Covid-19 positive during the investigation. In such a situation, it is feared that the Korona virus made its health more serious.

Is it fatal for children NB.1.8.1?

According to Dr. Yavon Maldonado, an infectiologist at Stanford University, NB.1.8.1 is more contagious, but it does not cause serious illness. However, in some cases such as young children or already present serious ill children may increase this problem. It is worth noting that during the last one year in America, 150 children have died from Kovid-19, which is almost equal to the deaths of 231 children from Influenza. This shows that Kovid-19 is not completely harmless for children. If the child’s immunity is weak or has serious diseases, then the problem may increase.
