Not all countries need to play Tests, who did such a statement in Australia that there was a ruckus

Cricket Australia CEO Tod Greenberg believes that not all countries need to play Tests as it burns some weak boards financially. He said that although there is no definite number of Test playing countries, ‘lack of Test cricket is not harmful but beneficial for us.

Australia hosted the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the 2024–25 season and is now set to welcome England to the Ashes Trophy later this year.

Earlier this month, India and England ended the competitive series of five Tests while Australia won a one -sided win in the Test series against Zimbabwe. These results have again sparked debate on the global structure of red ball cricket.

Greenberg told reporters, “I don’t think there is a certain number of Test playing countries.” But I think the lack of Test cricket in future will not be harmful but beneficial for us. ,

He said, “I mean to say that I do not think that every country in world cricket needs to wish to play Test cricket.” There is no problem with this. ,

Greenberg said, “Many traditionalists may not like it, but if we force them to play Test cricket, then we will really be trying to make these countries bankrupt. ,
