‘Not India, Australia will win 2-1 series’, former Australian captain predicted Shubman Gill as captain

Australia’s tour for Team India’s new captain Shubman Gill is going to prove to be the biggest Test of the career so far. Recently, the selectors have removed Rohit Sharma from the captaincy from the ODI format and handed over the command of the team to Shubman. This decision may have been taken keeping in mind the future of Team India, but continuously discussion is going on in the cricket world. Meanwhile, former Australia captain Aaron Finch has given a big statement.

“Australia will win 2-1 series”

Finch said that the three ODI series between India and Australia would be “exciting”, but they believe that Australia will make the series 2–1. He said, “It is always great to play the match against India. The return of Virat Kohli will definitely increase the confidence of Team India, but Australia is a very strong team in its domestic situation. Both teams are equal on paper. But I believe that this series will win Australia.”

Gill’s captaincy praised, but also expressed pressure

Finch appreciated Shubman Gill’s captaincy capacity and said that he has already shown leadership skills in IPL (Gujarat Titans) and England Test series. However, he also said that captaincy in ODIs would be a different challenge. He said, “Shubman has proved that he is a calm-minded and thought-making captain, but the circumstances are different in Australia. The bounce and speed here test the batsmen. They have to be strategically strong.”

Rohit and Kohli will get help

Finch also admitted that Shubman Gill will have a big relief for senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will be a big relief for him. He further said, “There was no senior player to advise Shubman on the field in the England Test series, but this time both Rohit and Virat will be with him, which will give them experience and confidence. Both players will play an important role to pursue the team.”

BCCI’s big decision and Team India’s future

BCCI has given a clear message through this decision that now it is focusing on young captains and future plans. Handing the command of the ODI team to Shubman Gill is considered a big step in this direction. However, now everyone’s eyes are on how Gill lead Team India in his first ODI captaincy campaign against Australia.
