Although SUVs are currently dominating the Indian automobile market, the craze for MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) still persists among family car buyers. The share of MPV segment was around 10% in the financial year 2025 and it is going to increase further in the coming years. Now the big news is that companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Nissan are going to launch four new MPVs in the Indian market in the coming two to three years. These new MPVs will have electric, hybrid and petrol engine options. Let us know in detail.

Maruti YMC

  • Maruti is working on an electric MPV, codenamed ‘YMC’. It is being prepared to compete with Kia Carens EV. According to reports, it can be launched by September 2025. YMC will have two battery options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh LFP. With these, power of 142 hp and 172 hp and torque of 192.5 Nm will be available. The company claims that its top variant can give a range of about 475 kilometers. Additionally, a similar Toyota-badged model may also be launched after a few months.

Maruti YDB

  • Maruti is bringing a sub-4 meter MPV codenamed YDB as its second new MPV. It will be based on the popular Suzuki Solio in Japan. It has been specially designed as an urban family car. Maruti’s new Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will be available in YDB. Along with this, the company will also introduce series hybrid technology, which will make it very economical in terms of mileage. It can be launched in 2027.

Hyundai Stargazer

  • Globally, Hyundai is going to launch three MPVs – Stargazer, Custo/Custin and Staria. The smallest and best of these MPVs is the Stargazer, which was primarily designed for the South-East Asian markets. Now Hyundai can introduce it in India as the next generation model in 2027. It will be based on the platform of new Creta (2028). The Stargazer is expected to offer 6 and 7-seater options, advanced connected car features and premium interiors.

Nissan

  • Nissan’s first MPV Evalia was not successful in the Indian market because it was large in size and expensive, but now the company is going to return to the MPV segment once again with a new strategy. This time Nissan is bringing an economical and compact MPV which will be based on Renault Triber. Actually, Nissan is planning to bring a re-badged version of its partner Renault’s Triber model in India. Testing has started and according to reports, it will be launched in February 2026. It will have the same engine and features that are found in Triber, but there will be differences in design and branding.
