Sugarcane Cultivation News: The use of AI in sugarcane cultivation is expected to reduce water requirement by up to 50 percent and increase in production per acre by about 30 percent. An experts of this region said this on Wednesday. It is noteworthy that recently there was a meeting in Pune in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and former Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, in which the use of AI in sugarcane cultivation was discussed.
“Microsoft has long worked on the use of AI for sugarcane cultivation and assured to reduce sugar production and reduced the use of water by half,” said Jayaprakash Dandegaonkar, director of Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factory Association Limited, and reduced the use of sugarcane by 30 percent and water use by half. This will help in running sugar mills for a long time (more than 110 days) and will also reduce the deficit. ”
How much will be spent on new technology?
He said, 40 (23 cooperatives and 17 private) sugar mills of Maharashtra, which do not have any loan outstanding of VSI, will be included in this project (use of AI in sugarcane cultivation). Dandegaonkar said that initially a farmer may need Rs 25,000. This technology will work on forecasting, soil testing, irrigation alerts, limiting the use of pesticides and protection of soil quality. He informed that sugarcane yield has decreased in Maharashtra.
How much sugarcane yield is happening?
Dandegaonkar said, “Due to low rainfall, production per acre in the state has come down to 73 tonnes. With the use of AI, we can reach at least 150 tonnes per acre production in the near future. “He said,” Farmers need to drip in their fields for irrigation. We can expect that the first such station will be established and operational by the end of August or by the first week of September. ”
