America’s big defense company Lockheed Martin has announced that it will conduct real testing of a weapon that can shoot down a missile from space by the year 2028. It is being said to be a part of the ‘Golden Dome Project’, which will provide such a protective shield to America that no missile will be able to reach it.
Company CEO Jim Tacklett said that this will not be a lab test, but a test conducted in real space. He said that we are making such an interceptor which will fly in orbit, track the missile and destroy it. That is, this system will be tested in real conditions like war.
What is the purpose of this project?
America wants that if an enemy country fires a missile, it can be destroyed in the sky within a few seconds of launch. Due to this, no missile will get a chance to reach American soil. That is why this new space-based defense system is being prepared.
How will the Golden Dome System work?
According to the news published in ‘The War Zone’, Lockheed Martin has prepared the initial technology of this system at its Center for Innovation in Virginia. This will be a network that will work by connecting the security systems of all three places: land, sea and space. Many big tech companies and defense industry partners are also included in this so that America’s technology remains at the forefront in the world.
Preparation to destroy the missile in the first stage of flight itself
According to defense experts, any ballistic or hypersonic missile can be shot down only in the first few seconds after its launch, i.e. ‘boost phase’, because that is when it is the weakest. For this reason, the focus of the Golden Dome system is on this phase so that the enemy attack ends before it reaches the American border.
This system will work even on mid-course
This system will have the ability to track and destroy the missile not only at the time of launch, but also in the mid-course phase, i.e. when it is flying in space. Due to this, even long-range missiles like ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) will not be able to reach America.
Why is this mission special
Defense experts say that if this project of Lockheed Martin is successful then the world’s missile defense technologies like S-400 or Iron Dome will be left behind. America will create such a space defense network that will be able to stop any attack as soon as it takes birth.
Now space has become a new battlefield
Although the Pentagon i.e. the US Defense Ministry is not saying much on this project, but experts say that this plan will become an important part of America’s Space Force in the future. It is now clear that future wars will be fought not only on earth but also in space.
