Kedarnath Yatra, which becomes a symbol of faith and belief of thousands of devotees every year, is going to be organized with the same pomp in 2026, but this time the administration has implemented many new arrangements to make the Yatra more safe, organized and transparent. Especially for horses and mules, which play a major role in carrying the travelers on the difficult hilly roads from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, many important rules have now been fixed for them.

While preparing for the yatra, the administration has decided that no horse or mule will be included in the yatra without insurance, without fitness and without registration. Its purpose is not only to ensure the safety of passengers, but also to prevent injustice and cruelty towards animals. Now the condition, health and information of the operator of the horses and mules will be completely tracked online, so that any kind of chaos or irregularity during the journey can be immediately controlled.

Special registration campaign will start from 26th February

The Animal Husbandry Department has announced a special campaign from February 26, in which the process of health checkup, insurance and registration of all the horses and mules participating in the yatra will be completed. This work will be completed about one and a half months before the commencement of the journey, so that no problem arises during the journey. Keeping in mind the convenience of travelers and cattle herders, two camps will be organized daily. In these camps, the process of health checkup, insurance and registration of horses and mules will be completed at one place. Three to four special camps will be organized till Holi, and the campaign will continue again after the Holi holiday.

Insurance now completely online

This year, payment of insurance premium will be accepted only through online mode. No cash transactions of any kind will be allowed. The administration believes that this step will help in ensuring transparency and accountability. Without online payment and valid documents, no animal will be allowed entry on the yatra route. Horses and mules are like a lifeline for the devotees for Kedarnath Yatra. Thousands of devotees depend on these animals for the difficult climb from Gaurikund to Kedarnath, hence it is very important that these animals are healthy, fit and insured.

Digital Registration and ID Card

Rudraprayag administration has also decided that now online registration of every horse and mule walking on the pedestrian route will be necessary. No animal will be included in the yatra without valid registration and health certificate. Besides, horse-mule operators will also have to register themselves and will be given a special ID card by the administration. This will not only stop complaints of overcharging from passengers, but the administration will also know through digital medium how many animals are present on the footpath at a particular time. Many arrangements are being made for the convenience of passengers and horses and mules on the walking route of the Yatra.

Benefits to passengers

Passengers will have complete information about the horse and operator on which they are riding. Illegal extortion will be stopped and services will be provided only at fixed rates. Availability of healthy and controlled number of horses will make the journey more comfortable. In Kedarnath Yatra 2026, the administration has given a clear message that security, transparency and discipline will be paramount. With the insurance and fitness campaign for horses and mules, it will be ensured that the journey remains safe not only for the devotees but also for the animals.
