With the aim of empowering working women, the Uttar Pradesh government has allowed women to work in night shifts. According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s public relations team, strict security measures will be ensured at every level from home to office. The government has taken this step after President Draupadi Murmu approved the Uttar Pradesh Factories Amendment Bill in the first week of October.
According to a statement, under the new provisions, women can now work between 7 pm and 6 am after giving written consent. This written consent is required to be registered in the labor department of the state.
Apart from this, security, health, transport facilities as well as deployment of CCTV surveillance and security guards have been made mandatory in factories. With this decision, women employees can work continuously for six hours without any break with their consent.
Overtime limit increased from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter
The statement said that the overtime limit for women has been increased from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter, which will be paid at double the wage rate. Apart from this, women have got a greater opportunity to test their risks in factories and hazardous category industries. Now women will overcome the fear within themselves and try their hand even in dangerous category of work, which will increase the self-confidence of women.
Women allowed to work in all 29 categories of hazardous industries
The government has allowed women to work in all 29 categories of hazardous industries, whereas earlier women were limited to work in only 12 hazardous categories. This decision of Yogi government has been taken keeping in mind the industrial expansion and technical requirement.
