The state government has taken a big decision to attract new industries and investment in Odisha and increase production of factories. The BJP has amended the Odisha Shop and Commercial Establishment Act and the 1956 Factory Act.

4 proposals of 3 departments were approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday (September 30, 2025) at Lok Seva Bhawan in Odisha. Giving information to the media, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that according to the amendment, the shops and commercial establishments in which 20 or more employees will be employed, the Odisha Shop and Commercial Establishment Act 1956 will be applicable to them.

‘It is mandatory to install signboard in Odia language’
It will now be mandatory for all establishments to install signboards in Odia language in the state. The duration of work hours has now been increased from 9 to 10 hours. No employee will work for more than 6 hours without a break without a break. The quarterly overtime limit has been increased from 115 hours to 144 hours.

Now the shop will be able to open 24 hours
According to the new rules, now the employee will get double payment from general wages for overtime if you do more than 10 hours of work on any day or more than 48 hours a week. Now the establishments can be open for 24 hours and 365 days. The government can issue the maximum daily work period up to 12 hours by issuing notification, provided the employees get the necessary comfort.

Women will be able to work at night
Apart from this, the ban on working at night has been lifted. Women employees can also be employed at work at night according to their written consent. At the Gram Panchayat level, the Godabarish Adarsh ​​Vidyalaya Scheme was approved. Under this, 2200 model schools will be built. The estimated expenditure will be 12 thousand crores.

The Majhi government of Odisha has decided to develop it in the major tourist destinations of the country, developing the Ghatgaon Maa Tarini Peeth. A tender of Rs 146 crore has been approved for construction work.
