Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has given such a statement regarding nuclear weapons, which has created a stir in world politics. ‘Many countries will compete to make nuclear weapons’
In an interview given to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Medvedev said, ‘The way the atmosphere of instability has arisen in the world, many other countries will get involved in the race to make nuclear weapons. This will destabilize the global situation. Due to the current situation in the world, it cannot be denied that some countries want to acquire nuclear weapons for their own defense.
‘Nuclear weapons are the only guarantee of security’
He said that at present this weapon of mass destruction is the only sure guarantee of national security. Medvedev said, ‘Many countries have the technical capability to run military programs while some countries are doing research in this field. This may not be in the interest of humanity, but the truth is that humanity has not yet found a way to protect itself and guarantee national sovereignty.
What did Medvedev say about START treaty?
Dmitry Medvedev said that Moscow has not yet received any official response from Washington on President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to extend by one year the deadline for establishing the START treaty between Russia and the United States. According to a senior Russian security official, the US still has time until February 5 to decide on this extension.
