US attack on Venezuela: America carried out a massive airstrike on Venezuela’s capital Caracas last night. Due to which panic has spread among the citizens there. Maduro vs Trump: What is the real reason for the conflict?
Trump has long been considered against Maduro. Trump has said many times that Maduro is responsible for illegal immigrants from Venezuela into America. A large number of people had come to America after the economic crisis that hit Venezuela since 2013. Trump has also called Venezuelan President Maduro a smuggler and had also announced a reward for his arrest.
Trump has accused Maduro of drug smuggling
Trump has been holding Maduro responsible for the illegal supply of drugs and cocaine. However, Maduro has said many times that Trump wants to remove him from power on the pretext of drug allegations. Trump has his eyes on Venezuela’s oil reserves. Apart from this, America has seized Venezuelan oil tankers several times on charges of carrying banned oil. Nicolas Maduro has been the President of Venezuela since 2013.
After the elections held in Venezuela in the year 2024, there was a lot of uproar over the elections in the country. Venezuelan opposition parties had alleged that opposition candidate Gonzalez had won the election but even then Maduro was declared victorious.
The main opposition leader is Maria Corina Machoda. Maduro had banned those from contesting elections. Recently in October 2025, Maria was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. For which she crossed the sea route and reached Oslo.
If Trump’s claim is true, then according to the Venezuelan Constitution, power will go to Nicolas Maduro’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who handles economic policy. But it is not clear who will ultimately come to power. The US does not recognize Maduro as the legitimate president and Venezuela’s opposition says the real president is exiled leader Edmundo Gonzalez.
How much oil reserves does Venezuela have?
Venezuela is home to the largest known reserves of oil, with an estimated 303 billion barrels by 2023. Saudi Arabia is in second place with 267.2 barrels. After that, Iran is at third and fourth place with 208.6 barrels and Canada with 163.6 barrels. These four countries together own more than half of the global oil reserves.
By comparison, the United States has about 55 barrels of oil reserves, ranking it ninth globally. This means that Venezuela’s oil reserves are more than five times the oil reserves of America. Globally, proven oil reserves, which measure the quantities of crude oil that can be extracted economically with current technology, total about 1.73 trillion barrels.
