Like every year on the full moon date of Ashwin month, this time Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti will be celebrated with great reverence and faith in the whole country. This is the same day when Adikavi Maharishi Valmiki is remembered for his immortal composition Ramayana. Maharishi Valmiki is not only considered the father of Sanskrit literature, but he also brought the ideals of humanity, morality and religion to the society through his creations.
This year Valmiki Jayanti will be celebrated on 7 October 2025, Tuesday. On this holy occasion, there will be an atmosphere of devotion and celebration across the country. Both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi government have declared this day a public holiday.
Public holiday will remain in UP
The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has announced a public holiday across the state on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti on 7 October. According to the government order issued, all government offices, private institutions, schools, colleges and universities of the state will remain closed on this day.
Valmiki Jayanti was already included in the annual holiday list released by the government in December 2024. But now the government has issued an order in formal confirmation of this.
Grand programs will be organized in many cities of Uttar Pradesh on Valmiki Jayanti. Tables, processions and cultural events will be held in big cities like Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Kanpur. Special awareness campaigns will also be conducted among the people about the life and teachings of Maharishi Valmiki.
There will also be a holiday in Delhi
Similarly, the Delhi government has also declared a public holiday on 7 October on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made a formal announcement on Sunday.
Schools, colleges and all educational institutions will remain closed on this occasion in Delhi. Also, there will be a holiday in government offices and corporation offices. On the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki in the capital, processions, Bhajan Sandhya and cultural programs will be organized. Valmiki temples and community centers of Delhi are being decorated and devotees are preparing to participate in large numbers.
