The recent report in Uttar Pradesh’s education system has given rise to many concerns. According to the UDISE+ 2024-25 reports released by the Union Ministry of Education, there are 9,508 schools in the state in which only one teacher is employed. These alone teachers are teaching a total of 6.2 lakh students. At the same time, there are no students in 81 schools of the state, yet 56 teachers are posted there.
Uttar Pradesh has a total of 2.6 lakh schools, out of which 4.3 crore students and 16.2 lakh teachers are employed. This means that there are 26 students per teacher per teacher. However, distribution of teachers and students in schools is uneven. Every school has an average of six teachers and 163 students. There are 1 lakh schools all over India which are running only one teacher and Uttar Pradesh alone holds about 9% of such schools and 18% students.
The situation in Uttar Pradesh is quite worrying compared to neighboring states. Delhi has 5,556 schools in which 44.9 lakh students study, but only 62 schools have a teacher, and they teach 771 students. Haryana has 23,494 schools, of which 57.7 lakh students, and only 1,066 schools have the same teacher, who are teaching 43,400 students.
Report revealed
According to reports, Uttar Pradesh had the final major recruitment of about 70,000 primary teachers on the basis of TET 2011. The report in March said that at least 30 government primary schools in Ghaziabad were running without principal, while 25 schools had only one teacher. In April, more than 10 teachers, including three principals, are going to retire, which will make many schools with severe low staff, of which students can be more than 200.
The report also revealed that there are no working toilets for girls in 7,087 schools (5.2%) of the state, which are becoming a major reason for adolescent girls to leave school. A total of 1,36,979 government girls or co-education schools have toilets for girls in 1,33,311 schools (97.3%), but only 1,29,892 (94.8%) are working. This means that 3,668 schools (2.7%) do not have separate girls toilets and 3,419 schools have toilets, but are not working.
Backward in digital education
Uttar Pradesh is also behind in digital education. There are 1,37,172 government schools, 8,262 aided schools and 1,04,580 private grant -free schools in the state. Of these, only 51,295 schools (19.6%) are computer working computers. Government schools have computers in only 4,729 (3.4%) schools, while 3,114 (37.7%) in aided schools and 41,491 (39.7%) in private grant -free schools.
Condition in case of laptop and tablet also crispy
The position of the laptop and tablet is worse. There are laptops in only 37,498 schools (14.3%) and tablets in 69,001 schools (26.3%) in the entire state. Laptops are available in only 1,094 (0.8%) schools in government schools and tablets available in 61,522 (44.8%) schools. In private grant -free schools, 31,684 (30.2%) schools have laptops and 6,831 (6.5%) schools. Government schools have only 28,558 (20%) smart classrooms. That is, 79% of schools are still away from digital education.
