Imf fund: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will review the package being given to Pakistan. This package has been given under Climate Regyl’s Loan Program. Foreign Secretary Vikram Egypt gave information about this in a question asked to review the loans to Pakistan. He said in reply that India will present its case in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) board meeting in Washington on Friday.
“I am sure our executive director will favor India”
The Foreign Secretary said on Thursday that the Executive Director of India in the IMF will present the country’s side during the board meeting of the Global Financial Body. He said in media briefing, “I am sure our executive director will favor India.” He said, “The decision of the board is a different case … but I think the matter in relation to Pakistan should be clear to those who generously loose their pockets to save this country.”
Foreign Secretary Egyptian said that the results have not been shared by the IMF on many on 24 bailout packages approved for Pakistan. Pakistan approves $ 1.3 billion loans
In the last 10 years, Pakistan has received several bailout packages from the IMF. For example, the fund approved a $ 7 billion loan in September 2024, which was to be distributed in the year. Out of this 7 billion dollars, $ 1 billion has already been distributed. Apart from this, IMF approved a $ 1.3 billion loan related to climate change to Pakistan in March 2025. IMF loans are conditional and debt -ridding countries need to make structural improvements in their economies.
The Foreign Secretary alleged that Financial Assistance indirectly was able to fund its military intelligence including groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM).
Working within Pakistan’s borders continues
He said, “Pakistan’s reputation as the center of global terrorism lies in many examples … I do not need to remind where Osama bin Laden was found and who called him a martyr.” He also pointed to a large number of terrorists, including the United Nations banned terrorists, who continue to work within the borders of Pakistan.
Foreign Secretary Egyptian’s statement came after the increasing concern that the financial assistance given to Pakistan can be used to promote its ongoing border terrorist activities, especially against India. Pakistan, which is currently facing a serious economic crisis, is highly dependent on IMF assistance through its extended fund facility (EFF).
Terrorist camps targeted in Kashmir
On May 9, the IMF review will determine whether Pakistan meets the conditions required to unlock the next installment of financing. However, the review time is particularly sensitive, coming only a few days after India’s “Operation Sindoor”, in which terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir were targeted. This development has emphasized India’s call for revaluation of Pakistan’s financial assistance. Recently, tension between India and Pakistan started on 22 April with a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
