The first match of IPL 2026 will be held between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28. This match will start at 7:30 pm at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This time there will be no opening ceremony of IPL. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has confirmed this.
On June 4 last year, 11 people were killed in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB victory parade. Showing sensitivity, remembrance and respect towards him, BCCI has decided not to hold the opening ceremony. Last year, RCB won its first IPL title by defeating Punjab Kings.

BCCI has decided not to do any celebration before the first match of IPL on Saturday. However, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that BCCI and IPL Governing Council are planning the grand closing ceremony of IPL 2026.
Speaking to Times of India, Devjit Saikia said, “Due to the tragic incident that happened on June 4 last year, there will be no formal function on the starting day of IPL 2026. BCCI is not organizing any cultural event.”
BCCI is planning a grand closing ceremony on the day of IPL final. Let us tell you that the final of IPL 2026 will be played on 31 May. BCCI has just announced the schedule of only 20 matches for this 10-team league.
In the last edition, a grand opening ceremony was organized in which Shahrukh Khan, Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla and Disha Patani performed.
Chance of rain in RCB vs SRH match
There will be a possibility of rain in Bengaluru on Saturday, March 28. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a 10 to 15 percent chance of rain during the match on Saturday. Royal Challengers Bangalore is participating in the league this time as the defending champion, the team had won its first title in the previous edition.
