India-pakistan conflict: On Tuesday (May 20, 2025), China called for a ‘broad and permanent ceasefire’ between India and Pakistan and appealed to them to resolve the differences in a proper way through negotiations. Along with this, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also expressed his support for his ‘Atal Mitra’ Pakistan in defense of sovereignty and regional integrity. Wang’s remarks came here on a three -day visit during a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Isaac Dar.
Dar is the first high -level Pakistani officer to visit China after a target attack on the terrorist structure in Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir under the ‘Operation Sindoor’. India took the military action ‘Operation Sindoor’ late on the night of May 6 in response to the terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam. 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
What did China say about India?
According to government news agency Xinhua, Wang told Dar, “China-Pakistan and India welcome and support their differences through negotiations, achieving broad and permanent ceasefire and finding fundamental solutions.” He said to Dar, “It is in conformity with the fundamental and long-term interests of both India and Pakistan and is also favorable for regional peace and stability of the international community and the international community is also suitable for regional peace and stability.
Promise of Pakistan’s support
According to ‘Global Times’, Wang told Dar, “As a Atal Mitra, as usual, China will support Pakistan in protecting its national sovereignty and regional integrity, exploring the development path of its national conditions, fighting terrorism and playing a big role in international and regional affairs.”
Complaint with China on Indus Water Agreement
Apart from Wang, Dar also met the influential minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) Liu Gianchao and also discussed New Delhi’s decision to postpone the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, besides issues arising out of India-Pakistan military conflict. Dar introduced Wang to the latest position after the consent to stop all military action after a four -day military conflict between Pakistan and India on 10 May and Pakistan’s views.
Dar said- Pakistan ready for conversation
Dar said that Pakistan will strongly protect its national sovereignty and regional integrity and at the same time it is willing to continue talks with India to normalize the situation. He stressed the need to pay attention by the international community on India’s decision to postpone the Indus Water Treaty (IWT). He said that according to the proposals of the United Nations Security Council, the solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is important for permanent peace in South Asia.
