Opportunity to become an officer in CAPF, UPSC released notification of Assistant Commandant Recruitment 2026

A big and important news has come out for the youth who dream of serving the country. UPSC has released the official notification for recruitment to the post of Assistant Commandant in Central Armed Police Force i.e. CAPF. This is a golden opportunity for the candidates who are preparing for UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant Exam 2026.

The online application process for this recruitment has been started by UPSC. Interested and eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website of UPSC. The last date to apply for these posts has been fixed as March 12, 2026. The Commission has clearly said that no candidate’s application will be accepted after the last date.

Central Armed Police Forces play an important role in the internal security of the country. This includes forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. Assistant Commandant is an officer level post in these forces, where one gets respect along with responsibility. This is the reason why every year lakhs of youth want to appear in this examination.

What are the eligibility criteria

Candidates applying for the post of Assistant Commandant will have to fulfill some important conditions. The age of the candidate will be calculated as on 01 August 2026. Minimum age should not be more than 20 years and maximum age should not be more than 25 years. However, reserved category candidates will be given age relaxation.

According to the notification, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates will be given relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit. Whereas Other Backward Class candidates will get a relaxation of 3 years. With this, more and more youth will get the opportunity to appear in the examination.

What should be the educational qualification?

To apply for these posts, the candidate must be a graduate from a recognized university or institute in India. Candidates who have done graduation in any subject can apply for this examination.

How will the selection be done?

UPSC CAPF Assistant Commandant recruitment process will be completed in several phases. First of all the candidates will have to give written examination. There will be a total of two papers in the written examination. Questions of 250 marks will be asked in Paper-1, while questions of 200 marks will be asked in Paper-2. This written examination will be conducted on 19 July 2026.

Complete exam schedule

Paper-1 will be held from 10 am to 12 noon.
Paper-2 will be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Candidates successful in the written examination will be called for the next stage.

PET and PST test

After passing the written examination, candidates will have to appear for Physical Efficiency Test i.e. PET and Physical Standard Test i.e. PST. In this, race, height, weight and other physical parameters of the candidates will be examined. This phase is considered very important for forces like CAPF.
