The list of eligible films for the Best Animated Feature Film of Oscar 2026 has been released, and the Indian film ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ has been qualified in it. While sharing the official update, the Academy itself has confirmed that ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ will compete with many films in this category.

Clem Productions and Homble Films’ Mahavatar Narasimha created a stir at the box office across the country and the world. Now this film has done another miracle. In fact, it has been shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
Directed by Ashwin Kumar, the film is listed along with K-pop Demon Hunters, Zootopia 2, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, and many others. To qualify for Best Animated Feature, a film must be over 40 minutes in length, with at least 75% of the runtime composed of animation.

‘Mahavatar Narasimha’, released in July this year, proved to be a blockbuster at the box office which surprised the trade and Indian industry. The film grossed approximately Rs 325 crore worldwide, and holds the record for the highest-grossing Indian animated film of all time.

Let us tell you that earlier, India’s Dharma Productions’ “Homebound” was selected as the country’s official Oscar entry in the International Feature Film category. Meanwhile, “Mahavatar Narasimha” is the first film of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, which will have a total of 7 films. The next film of this series is “Mahavatar Parashuram”, which will be released in theaters across the world in 2027.
When will Oscars 2026 take place?
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2026. The 98th Oscars will be held on March 15, 2026 at the Dolby Theater in Ovation Hollywood and will be telecast live on ABC.
