Air fare surges: The effect of the war between Iran and Israel is being seen all over the world. Especially, it seems as if a disaster has fallen on the developing countries. Now take Pakistan only. In a country whose economy is already dependent on debt and inflation is at its peak, the fares for domestic and international flights have been increased due to the war. This means that air travel has become expensive in Pakistan.
How much has the fare increased?
According to industry sources, airline companies in Pakistan have increased fares on many special domestic routes connecting big cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. In cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, domestic flight fares have increased by 2800-5000 PKR per passenger.
Where the fare is usually 10000-15000 PKR depending on the first route. Now it has increased to 17000–20000 PKR or even more. At the same time, there has been an increase of 10000-28000 PKR in international fares. The fare for long distance air travel between Toronto and Manchester has now reached up to PKR 2.5 lakh just one way in economy class.
Why did the price of air ticket increase?
Amid tensions in the Middle East, jet fuel prices in Pakistan have increased from 154 PKR per liter to 342 PKR per liter. This huge increase of almost 82 percent in aviation fuel has caused the prices to increase? On top of this, the demand is also very high during the month of Ramadan. However, airline companies have not directly increased the base fare, but have imposed fuel surcharge of $20-100.
People of Pakistan got angry
People in Pakistan are angry with this sudden increase in air fares. A lot of criticism is also being made on social media. Many passengers say that now air travel is no longer affordable for common people. This increase has especially affected people traveling for business, employees working abroad and students traveling abroad.
Experts have warned that the increase in air fares can also affect Pakistan’s tourism sector. Higher ticket prices may discourage both domestic and international travelers, leading to reduced travel demand. Some travelers are already looking at cheaper options like trains and buses for domestic travel.
