Kashmir terror attack: The terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir has also condemned the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including several countries in the world. Media reports are claiming that Pakistan has worked with China to weaken the UNSC statement. Temporary member of UNSC Pakistan co-stole the statement issued by the council on the attack.
Pakistan helped China to weaken the statement
According to a report by the Times of India, the recently released statement by UNSC was weaker than the statement released during the Pulwama attack in 2019. Pakistan enlisted the help of China to make the statement less bent towards India. After the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan had expressed concern in his statement, but the Islamabad administration did not mention anywhere.
UNSC called for international cooperation to bring criminals into the dock of justice. However, things changed as the statement proceeded. During the Pulwama attack, the UNSC called upon all countries to actively cooperate with the Government of India, but this time it was not done.
India stopped from getting an edge
China -backed Pakistan was responsible for a change in statement. It is important to note that this statement was proposed by the US and had to go through a tough conversation before all the members reached the consensus. Pakistan’s aim behind lightening the statement may be that Islamabad may have thought that the special mention of the Government of India will give India an edge in the investigation of the attack.
This is happening at a time when Pakistan is demanding an independent body to investigate the case. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that Pakistan is ready for a neutral and transparent investigation of the attack. India is on the way to improve relations with China. Beijing’s silent support to Pakistan in this case can be worrying for New Delhi.
