Pahalgam terror attack: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (5 May 2025) amidst increasing tension between India and Pakistan. Putin has reiterated the commitment to support India in the fight against terrorism. He condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed condolences to the people who lost their lives in the attack.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal posted on X and said that during the conversation, the Russian President emphasized that the people behind the attack and his supporters should be brought into the dock of justice. Putin’s support to India has come about two weeks after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
PM Modi invited Putin
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. PM Modi invited Putin for the annual summit to be held in India later this year. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov had talked to S Jaishankar on the phone about the Pahalgam terror attack. He appealed to both countries to exercise restraint.
United Nations Security Council meeting on Indo-Pak situation
After the Pahalgam terror attack, a meeting of the United Nations Security Council is to be held in a closed room on Monday regarding the situation between India and Pakistan. Pakistan demanded an emergency meeting on this issue. The Pakistani ambassador met Gutaras last week and informed them about the security situation of the area. India has taken several tough decisions against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the attic border and limiting diplomatic relations after the terrorist attack.
