He also said that the death toll has reached around 400, while more than 250 people have been injured.
Zabihullah Mujahid condemned
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also condemned the incident in a post on Twitter and said most of those killed were vulnerable civilians. He wrote, “Most of the innocent civilians and drug addicts died last night in a 2,000-bed hospital due to the (Pakistani military group’s) bombing. Truly, we belong to God and will return to Him.” Afghanistan’s health ministry officials said emergency teams rushed to the scene overnight, while rescue teams searched damaged parts of the hospital. Health Ministry spokesman Sharaf Zaman said at least 170 injured patients were initially sent to nearby medical facilities.
Zaman told the media, ‘The rescue operation is still going on and the death toll may increase. “Many parts of the hospital were destroyed.” Local media reported that rescue teams were trying to extinguish the fire and pull out bodies from the debris. According to Khaama Press, officials have described this attack as one of the most dangerous attacks in Kabul in recent years. The outlet reported that international celebrities immediately reacted to the incident.
United Nations Human Rights Council (United Nations Human Rights Council) Afghanistan’s special reporter Richard Bennett expressed concern over the news of civilian casualties and appealed for restraint between Kabul and Islamabad. Former Afghan peace talks negotiator Abdullah Abdullah also condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international law and saying disputes should be resolved through dialogue. Former US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad also expressed concern over the civilian casualties and appealed for humanitarian aid for the victims.
