Whenever Pakistan raises the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations, it faces defeat. When Pakistan once again raised the issue of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir in the UNSC, India’s Permanent Representative P. Harish slammed Pakistan. The Indian Embassy said that we appeal to Pakistan to end human rights violations in the areas under illegal occupation. Where the people are openly revolting against Pakistan’s military occupation, oppression, cruelty and illegal exploitation of resources.
Indian Ambassador Harish said, ‘I want to emphasize that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been and will always be an integral and inseparable part of India. The people of Jammu and Kashmir exercise their fundamental rights in accordance with the democratic traditions and constitutional framework of India. We certainly know that these concepts are alien to Pakistan.
Indian envoy mentioned Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
The Indian envoy stressed India’s commitment to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, seeing the world as one family and advocating justice, dignity and prosperity for all. He said that this is not only the basis of our world view, but also the reason why India has consistently advocated justice, dignity, opportunity and prosperity for all societies and people.
Questions raised on the relevance of the United Nations
Addressing the open debate of the United Nations Security Council, the Indian Ambassador highlighted the contribution of the United Nations since the Second World War. He also talked about the questions arising regarding its relevance, validity, reliability and effectiveness.
Ambassador Harish said, ‘The topic of this debate has become very important at a time when the world’s largest multilateral organization (United Nations) is facing questions related to relevance, legitimacy, credibility and effectiveness.’ The Ambassador further explained how the organization has worked for the abolition of colonialism and has become a beacon of hope for international peace and security.
