Making a major change in its military system, Pakistan has appointed General Asim Munir as the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces (CDF). With the issuance of the order from Rashtrapati Bhavan, Munir has now become the supreme officer having joint control over the Army, Air Force and Navy. Shortly after the appointment, he said that Pakistan is preparing to move towards new heights and the current situation is gradually improving.

For a long time, the three most influential political families of the country, Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Zardari kept talking on this issue. This attempt to strike a balance between power and the army got stuck in an agreement late in the night, after which the order was issued. Experts believe that Nawaz Sharif’s political ambitions and desire to maintain his hold on the top level of the army have been the main reasons behind this decision. By giving a tenure of 5 years to Munir, the message was also made clear that the army is going to adopt an integrated leadership model in the coming years.
Why did Pakistan prepare a new military structure?
